Scott Tetlow
Scott was born in Rochdale in 1969 and developed an early interest in art. As a teenager, he dedicated his leisure time to sketching punk figures and creating album covers. This collection of work paved the way for his admission into Cheltenham University, where he obtained a degree in fine art.
In 2002, a devastating fire destroyed his cherished studio, resulting in the loss of everything he owned. Struggling both practically and emotionally, Scott redirected his focus towards teaching, feeling as though his artistic journey had come to an end.
In 2011, Scott relocated his family to Verona, where, somewhat ironically, they settled in an apartment situated above an art store. Inspired once more, he started capturing the breathtaking architecture around him. With his enthusiasm reignited, he returned to England and established a studio in his backyard, and he has been painting ever since.
While residing in Taiwan, I immersed myself in the study of calligraphy, which I learned is highly regarded as an art form. Calligraphy serves as a means to convey the inner beauty of the spirit and soul. Chinese calligraphy emphasizes two forms of beauty: the evident aesthetics and the concealed essence—the spirit and vitality of a character. Chinese artists often claim they are 'writing' a painting, a notion that has greatly influenced my work throughout the years. I aspire for my creations to narrate their own tales, allowing viewers to sense their energy.
