Lawrence Coulson
Passionate about automobiles, Lawrence frequently received a blank sheet of paper to sketch his preferred models repeatedly. Although he had a strong affinity for art in his early years, he graduated from school with only a D grade in the subject. Subsequently, he entered the retail sector and eventually assumed the role of sales and marketing manager for a local family business.
During this period, Lawrence's father encouraged him to explore painting, and his initial efforts proved to be quite promising. A few months later, after creating several artworks, he was given the chance to display some of his pieces in a local pub in Cambridge, where he sold his very first painting for £30.00 just a week later. Throughout the 1980s, Lawrence continued to paint during his leisure time, gradually establishing a reputation among local galleries that began to sell an increasing number of his works. His significant breakthrough occurred in the summer of 1996 when a friend who owned a restaurant proposed that he showcase his art in the establishment without any commission fees.
This friend later recommended organizing a private exhibition of Lawrence's work, which he successfully planned and promoted. He invited representatives from The Halcyon Gallery to attend, and they were so impressed that they purchased nearly all the pieces displayed. In the following year, Lawrence dedicated himself to creating paintings in his spare time to meet the growing demand, all while maintaining his full-time managerial position. It was only when he reached a point of utter fatigue that he recognized the need to make a career choice, and on Independence Day in 1997, he officially declared himself an artist.
