Collection: Keith Proctor

Keith always starts his artwork by sketching with charcoal on a pre-coloured cotton canvas, focusing on achieving balance and composition before diving into painting. He keeps a large mirror behind him and frequently glances over his shoulder to view things from a different perspective. His painting process is swift, using only a palette of five colours. According to him, it's the bold and confident brushwork that brings his pieces together.

 Once he slows down and starts overthinking, he hears his father's voice in his head shouting, "Stop - leave it alone!", signalling that the image is fundamentally complete. Many of Keith's creations draw inspiration from his youngest son, Jack. As a father of four boys, he possesses a unique understanding of his subjects. He admires the natural and instinctive behaviour of children, finding their spontaneity and sincerity captivating. Keith aims to capture this body language in his work, highlighting everyday situations that emphasize humour or pathos.

Keith's works also reflect his love for outdoor life, stemming from his own cherished memories of a carefree childhood spent playing outside. His intention is to transport the viewer back to what he describes as "a more simple world," encapsulating children in moments that shape lasting memories. He endeavors to capture those fleeting, precious moments that define us and endure for a lifetime.
