Biography

Dale Bowen was born in Staffordshire in 1963 and has remained closely connected to the county throughout his life. From an early age he was drawn to painting, later studying art at Newcastle-under-Lyme College before entering the local ceramics industry — a path that would define much of his professional life.

He trained and worked as a master potter, beginning at Coalport China and later spending fifteen years in the Prestige Department at Wedgwood. Over more than two decades in the industry he created highly decorated, one-off commissions for collectors worldwide. Notable pieces included works for Coalport’s 250th anniversary, the Queen Mother’s 100th birthday celebrations, and the Battle of Trafalgar 200-year commemorations at Portsmouth Naval Museum, including a plaque presented to Her Majesty on board HMS Victory. Many of these ceramics were exhibited in museums in the UK, USA and Japan, with individual pieces achieving prices in excess of £100,000.

Despite this success, painting remained his first love. In more recent years he completed a master’s degree in ceramics at Staffordshire University and exhibited privately in New York, Washington, San Francisco and Japan.
