Biography

Daisy Clayton is a contemporary British artist based in Oxfordshire. She has been painting since early childhood, with one of her earliest memories being standing at a small easel in the kitchen working with poster paints. By the age of six she was already immersed in watercolours and frequently visited the local art shop with her father. Following the passing of her great-grandfather, she acquired a wooden box of watercolours that became a cherished companion for many years of creative exploration.

She took Art A Level and was inspired by her art teacher, Mr Lawson, during years 7 to 9. After completing her studies she pursued an undergraduate degree in Psychology at Oxford Brookes University, followed by a Masters degree in Mental Health and Psychological Therapies at Queen Mary University London. During her academic years she continued to paint sporadically, particularly during challenging periods, developing a growing awareness of how memory, emotion and perception influence the way light, colour and space are rendered on canvas.

Motherhood marked a significant turning point, sharpening her focus on the intimate, fleeting and quietly luminous moments of daily life. Domestic interiors became sanctuaries in her work — not merely backgrounds, but places where time, tenderness and transformation unfold. She began pursuing art professionally around 2019, drawing on her psychological training to explore how paintings can evoke feeling and create emotional connection with the viewer.

Her evolving body of work combines architecture, landscape and emotive scenes drawn from lived experience. She is currently developing two series, “The Seen Quiet” and “Still Weather”, both of which examine stillness as an emotional and visual state — a way of witnessing what lies beneath the surface of everyday moments.
