Biography

Anna Razumovskaya was born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, during the Cold War era. Growing up amid the austerity of the period, she was also influenced by the sophisticated, fashion-conscious world of her mother. She excelled at art school and graduated in 1991 with an MFA from the Russian State Academy of Fine Arts (Rostov-on-Don), receiving the distinction of High-Class Artist.

From 1992 to 1995 she continued her studies in Germany, Belgium and Holland, immersing herself in European artistic traditions. Of particular interest were the portrait masters of the late nineteenth century, including John Singer Sargent and Valentin Serov, as well as earlier masters such as Peter Paul Rubens and Rembrandt. After extensive travels she settled in Toronto, Canada, in the late 1990s—meeting and marrying her partner Eugene there—and has made the city her home ever since.

From her Toronto studio Anna Razumovskaya has held solo exhibitions in New York, Paris, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Berlin and across the United Kingdom, including Mayfair and a tour of multiple galleries. Her work is held in private collections worldwide and has been the subject of a collector’s monograph. She continues to create original paintings and limited-edition prints that celebrate the elegance and emotional life of the female form.
