Biography
Andrei Protsouk was born in 1961 in the industrial city of Donetsk, Ukraine. Raised in a creatively rich household—his mother a master embroiderer and calligraphy artist, his father a photographer—he showed exceptional talent from childhood. At the age of six he impressed his parents with a clay sculpture of a cowboy and an Indian, an early glimpse of the American themes that would later define his career.
After schooling he entered the prestigious Lugansk State School of Fine Art, graduating in 1981. He then pursued advanced studies at the Ilya Repin Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Saint Petersburg, one of the world’s foremost classical academies. There he studied under the renowned master Evsey Moiseenko (associated with figures such as Picasso and Chagall), becoming one of the master’s last protégés. Graduating at the top of his class in 1989, he received the elite Red Diploma and the Lenin Student Stipend—the highest honours in the Soviet academic system. His student drawings were selected for permanent museum collections and academic publications.
In 1994, shortly before completing doctoral examinations, Andrei Protsouk emigrated permanently to the United States with his family and settled in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where he maintains his studio and gallery. His early Soviet-era work employed heavier textures and darker palettes reflecting themes of restriction; after the move his palette brightened dramatically and his subjects turned to love, romance, music, dance and shared human moments. Today Andrei Protsouk artwork is held in private and corporate collections internationally, and he continues to produce original paintings and museum-quality limited-edition prints from his Pennsylvania base.

Artistic Style & Technique
Andrei Protsouk’s style marries classical European draftsmanship with contemporary figurative expression. His signature “Fine Line” technique—rooted in academic training—employs strong, constructive lines to create rhythm, balance and emotional flow. The result is compositions that feel both structured and alive, revealing new relationships with every viewing.
Early work used heavier textures and darker palettes; after settling in America the palette opened into luminous colour and joyful subjects. Influences of cubism and expressionism appear in the stylised forms and energetic surfaces, while gold and silver leaf sometimes echo traditional Russian icon traditions. Long-time colleague Gennadii Gogoliuk has described the mature style as “Americana Eroticism”—a warm, optimistic celebration of intimacy and the sensual poetry of daily life.
