Born in Redcar, North Yorkshire, his photorealistic works capture the raw beauty of animals, from African big cats to British birds, set against their natural habitats. Hunt’s art blends scientific precision with vibrant detail, reflecting his zoological background. His paintings not only showcase the majesty of wildlife but also serve as a powerful call to protect the planet, resonating with collectors who share his commitment to conservation.

Biography

Alan Hunt, born in 1947 in Redcar, North Yorkshire, discovered his love for art at eight, painting British garden birds inspired by a 1937 Observers Book of British Birds. Largely self-taught, he later studied zoology at Leeds City College and the University of Bristol, earning the title “the zoologist who paints wildlife.” His early artistic influences came from observing nature in his hometown.

At 18, Hunt held his first solo exhibition in Redcar, marking the start of a prolific career. His field trips to Africa, Antarctica, and beyond shaped his focus on endangered species, particularly big cats and birds of prey. Using acrylics and oils, Hunt’s photorealistic style captures intricate details of fur, feathers, and habitats, often highlighting conservation themes.

From his Scarborough studio, Hunt creates works that reflect his global travels, from the Serengeti to Yellowstone. His paintings, featured in museums and private collections worldwide, carry a personal touch, often inspired by his experiences with wildlife. His commitment to conservation drives his art, with proceeds from sales supporting environmental charities.

Hunt’s international acclaim includes four Award of Excellence medals from the Society of Animal Artists (USA) and three consecutive UK Best Artist awards from The Wildlife Art Society. His work has been showcased at Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Bonhams, captivating collectors globally. Hunt’s art is a vivid testament to his mission to protect wildlife and their habitats.

Alan Hunt’s journey from a young bird enthusiast to a globally recognized artist reflects his dedication to blending art and science, creating works that inspire awe and action for the natural world.
