yuvi

Introducing Yuvi, a graffiti pop artist, to the UK for the first time. His work has earned him exhibitions and admiration from New York to New Delhi. Through his work, viewers are taken back to the street – the main source of inspiration – which makes it accessible, trustworthy and easily recognisable. The animation and energy seen in each masterpiece adds a certain vibrancy - a visual delight!

His work encompasses a wide range of topics, from superheroes to scientists, artists to movie stars, even animals. Fusing humour and rebellion, he puts his viewpoint into artforms, tackling issues he feels strongly about – be it a political comment or something celebratory – with an unmistakable style.

Born in the 1970s Tel Aviv - nicknamed ‘the other city that never sleeps’ - Yuvi was raised in Florentine, a hip neighbourhood now renowned for its graffiti culture. This diverse environment of music, politics and social activity fuelled his inspiration and characterised his passionate approach to art, giving rise to powerful and colourful works.

After studying Graphic Design, he travelled across Europe and lived in the U.S., where he encountered an array of cultures, aesthetics, and forms of expression. This enabled him to reach new heights with his art, taking inspiration from American icons such as Andy Warhol and the British enigma Banksy.

Yuvi blends traditional approaches with digital mechanisms. His figures and their backgrounds are fashioned from paint, paper cut-outs, multiple layers of vintage newspaper cuttings, drawings, silk-screening, assorted glues, paints, spray colours, sand, glass shards and more. He often works manually so his relationship to each piece is highly physical; looking at his hands post-studio session reveals the measure of his devotion and admiration for his art. The ultimate work is highly tangible as viewers are pleasured to touch it with their own hands.
