Born in 1961 in Lancashire, Carol Gillan studied Fine Art in Brighton. Becoming an illustrator for a large selection of projects she finally settled on becoming a full time fine artist. Basing herself in Surrey, Gillan devotes herself to painting dramatic and humourous animal portraits.
In 2006, Gillan was awarded first prize in DeMontford's New Artist competition, since then her work has been widely exhibited throughout Europe and she has taken on various commissions for notable individuals
Gillan captures the form of her subjects very accurately, the sense of weight being almost tangeable, Gillan also paints subtle but important reflections to give her pieces a sense of depth and suspense.
